THE Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) marked its 52nd anniversary with a Tahlil ceremony for the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman at the Royal Mausoleum.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil led by Major Ariffin bin Amit, Assistant Head of Religious Department Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
The RBN also held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, Doa Kesyukuran and mass Zohor prayer at Surau Al-Huda at the Muara Naval Base.
Present at both events was the Commander of the RBN, First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad. Also present were senior officers, officers, and non-commissioned personnel of the RBN.
The RBN was formed on June 14, 1965, as the Boat Section which later grew to be the First Flotilla, Royal Brunei Malay Regiment/RBAF, according to a press release. On October 1, 1991, with the reorganisation of the RBAF, the First Flotilla was named the Royal Brunei Navy.
