ROYAL Brunei Airlines (RB) held a sungkai and donation ceremony for orphans yesterday in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan.
The event took place at the Royal Brunei Airlines Training Centre, and saw donations presented to 50 recipients whose parents were in service with RB and have dearly departed.
Present as the guest of honour was Deputy Minister of Finance Dato Paduka Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, who presented the donations to the recipients.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by welcoming remarks from the Chairman of RB Welfare Committee Akmal Ariffin bin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman. The event then continued with the presentation of donations.
The event concluded with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah at the RB Surau for the family members and friends of RB who have departed. Attendees were also invited to a Sungkai get-together and to perform the mass Maghrib prayer.
Prior to the ceremony, a Tazkirah Ramadhan entitled ‘Hikmah Ramadhan’ was held at the RB Surau by Ustaz Hilman from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali.
Every year, RB organises a donation drive for RB orphans. According to information from the airline, “The RB orphans remain the most important beneficiary of RB’s charitable initiatives, because at RB we stay true to our Bruneian values to help one another when in-need and in difficulty.”
The funds and donations were raised through donations by RB staff, contributions from RB Keys to Courtesy Committee activities and Royal Brunei Recreation Club events.
