Winners of Jawi reading contest awarded

TEN students took part in the finals of the 5th Jawi Reading Competition for Primary Schools yesterday, at the Beribi Religious School in Gadong.

The competition was jointly organised by the Academic Division of Brunei III and the Committee for Religious School Leaders of Brunei Zone III, to encourage and enhance Jawi literacy among primary school students.

Alvan Nashrul Khaq bin Ahmad Muzaki Darsono from Beribi Telanai Religious School, and Nuramirah Najihah binti Rodnegzan from Dato Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Religious School in Kiarong, took top honours in the male and female categories, respectively. Both students received trophies and certificates of participation.

Second place went to Ahmad Danish Syafiq bin Mohd Yusaini from Beribi Religious School (afternoon session) in the male category, and Nur Aina Najibah binti Asman from Beribi Telanai Religious School in the female category.

And in third place were Mohd Syahir Aqil bin Haji Md Saiful Nurrizam from the Royal Brunei Police Force Religious School (afternoon session) in the male category and Nurul Mursyidah Syazwani binti Riduan from the Royal Brunei Police Force Religious School (morning session) in the female category.

Prizes were distributed to the winners by the guest of honour, Haji Ayop bin Haji Ghani, the Head of the Co-Curriculum Division at the Islamic Studies Department.

There was also a presentation of a trophy by Hajah Sarbanun binti Juned, a former Islamic Studies Officer in Brunei III, to the best overall participant, Nuramirah Najihah binti Rodnegzan.

Haji Ahmsani bin Haji Ahmad, the Head of Academic Division Brunei III, in his capacity as chairman of the event, said that this year’s attendance was encouraging, with 33 lower primary religious school students – comprising of 16 boys and 17 girls – taking part in the early stages of the competition.
