THE Tutong District held a national flag hoisting ceremony in conjunction with the 71st birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex area.
Present at the event – held simultaneously with flag hoisting ceremonies in the other districts – was Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Haji Mohd Fauzi bin Haji Anuar, Mosque Affairs Officer and Head of Imam of the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong.
A large-size Brunei national flag was brought into the ceremonial area by a delegation comprising members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Tutong District Volunteers.
The delegation was led by Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, Assistant Tutong District Officer, and accompanied by a marching band from the Prisons Department.

The flag was then handed over to the guest of honour by Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, the Tutong District Officer.
The guest of honour then handed over the flag to the Royal Brunei Police Force for the hoisting ceremony.
This was followed by a singing of the Brunei national anthem ‘Allah Perharakan Sultan’ and a patriotic song titled ‘Bendera Negara’, performed by a coalition from the Telisai Harmonics Choir Group from Mukim Telisai and Wira Bangsa Mukim Pekan Tutong.
The event concluded with the handing over of national flags to penghulus of the Tutong District by the guest of honour.
Also present at the flag hoisting were members of the Legislative Council, members of the high working committee of His Majesty’s 71st birthday celebration 2017 for the Tutong District, government officials, and penghulus and village heads of the Tutong District.
