SABLI Food Industries (B) Sdn Bhd yesterday donated kitchen appliances in the form of a mixer and an oven to the Masin Secondary School.

The event took place at the company’s premises in the Lambak Kanan Industrial Estate.

The donations were presented by YB Haji Abdul Hamid @ Sabli bin Haji Arshad, Chairman of Sabli Group of Companies and a member of the Legislative Council, to the Principal of Masin Secondary School, Ivan Moore.

Others present at the event were officers from the Department of Schools, members of Masin Secondary School Management Team and Homeroom Teachers of Pre-Vocational Programme.

YB Haji Abdul Hamid said that the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to support the Pre-Vocational Programme and empower individuals with special needs.

He hoped that with the donated equipment, the students and Homeroom Teachers can produce baked goods for sale.

This will in turn help students to develop entrepreneurship acumen and learn basic working skills.

He also urged others such as NGOs and the private sector to come forward to help special needs students in the country through the programme.

In May 2017, four selected Pre-Vocational Programme students, two Homeroom Teachers and one relief teacher from Masin Secondary School completed their 12-week training at Sabli Pastry Shop in Kampong Limau Manis.

YB Haji Abdul Hamid expressed his interest by offering students and teachers the opportunity to participate in short term work experiences and undergo long term job attachment in the company as part of its CSR.

Sabli Food Industries is currently collaborating with four selected government secondary schools in providing opportunities for Pre-Vocational Programme students to pack spices in schools since 2015 to allow the Pre-Vocational Programme students to learn basic working skills,

The first school to collaborate with the company was Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School (October 2015), followed by Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College (August 2016), Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School (November 2016) and Katok Secondary School (April 2017).

Currently, three Pre-Vocational Prog-ramme students from Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School are undergoing job placement at Sabli Food Industries in the Lambak Kanan Industrial Estate while four Pre-Vocational Programme students from Masin Secondary School are undergoing job placement at Sabli Pastry Shop in the Light Industrial Complex, Kampong Limau Manis.

Meanwhile, Principal Moore expressed his gratitude on behalf of the school to Sabli Food Industries for the donation.

He also conveyed his gratitude to the Academic Unit of the Department of Schools for supporting his school through the collaboration between Sabli Pastry Shop and Masin Secondary School.

The joint-venture allowed selected Pre-Vocational Programme students, Homeroom Teachers and a relief teacher to undergo a short training on baking biscuits, cakes and pastries under the Work Skill Exposure Project recently.

Moore also presented a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the school to YB Haji Abdul Hamid.

The Pre-Vocational Programme is a programme introduced by the Ministry of Education to meet the needs of students with special needs since 1999.

To date, there are 28 selected government secondary schools and colleges implementing the programme.
