DPMM FC ensured that they will head into the Singapore League Cup semi-finals as Group ‘B’ winners following a 3-3 draw with Geylang International FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore last night.
It was the perfect tonic for the designated hosts who two years ago was eliminated at this exact group stage fixture by the same opponents.
Both teams have already advanced and last night’s clash determined who finished top of the group.
Geylang looked in good shape to snatch top spot from the hosts’ clutches after pulling a 3-1 lead after they replied Adi Said’s opener with strikes from Victor Coto and Ricardo Sendra as well as a Taufiq Ghani penalty.
The Eagles fielded a reasonably strong squad after playing all the imports Japanese defender Yuki Ichikawa, Costa Rica forward Coto and Argentinian midfielder Sendra.
However, the Gegar Gegar men fashioned a comeback of their own after Maududi Hilmi Kasmi and Helmi Zambin struck in the 69th and 84th minute respectively.
The draw ensured that DPMM FC will avoid reigning holders Albirex Niigata (S) and will now face Warriors FC in the last four on July 18.
Geylang’s reward of advancing in the semifinals are a tie against Albirex in the other matchup.
