POLITEKNIK Brunei kicked off its second entrepreneurship exhibition, ENTx 2016, yesterday.
Around 380 students from the School of Business and School of ICT of Politeknik Brunei, divided into 64 groups, are taking part in ENTx 2016, which continues today.
The event presents an opportunity for the students to showcase their innovative ideas, while at the same time offering public exposure and market validation.
The event started with an opening ceremony at Politeknik Brunei’s One Stop Centre, which was officiated by Mohd Deddy Erwan Shah bin Haji Abdul Mutalif, the Acting Head of the School of Business.
ENTx 2016 also allows the School of Business to carry out the final assessment for the students of Politeknik Brunei undertaking the Entrepreneurship Module.
Participants of the exhibition are being judged in three categories. First is the group pitch, which took place a week before the event and saw students convince judges about the usability of their ideas.
Second is the voting ballot, which sees invitees and attendees at the exhibition vote for the best idea, while the third category is station judging, where participants’ displayed supporting evidence and prototypes would be judged by Politeknik Brunei’s facilitators.
Goh Chai Li, Education Officer at the Politeknik Brunei, delivered welcoming remarks at the ceremony, in which she explained, “This entrepreneurship exhibition is one of the tasks of evaluation for Entrepreneurship Module under the School of Business at Politeknik Brunei in the Level 5 Diploma structure.”
“Such assessments are among the tasks carried out practically for the inclination towards market importance and relevance while also as a starting point for students to continue to practice creativity and innovation in line with this institution’s slogan, ‘Innovation Begins Here’.
“This event is not just aimed at assessing the efforts of students from the School of Business and School of ICT of Politeknik Brunei, but is also hoped to be an inspiration and lesson to students from other institutions be continually determined towards enhancing their creativity and initiative in all academic fields or tasks in the future.”
Students from other institutions are also given the opportunity to share their opinions towards shifting the paradigms or fellow student thought towards developing their capabilities to create an innovative generation.
She expressed her pride at the achievement and effort put forward by the participating Politeknik Brunei students. “This is a gift that is given to teachers that have strived towards educating and producing innovative people.”
She added that it is also hoped that the event can also be a starting point towards the development of fields of work that can be pursued further.
“Hopefully this initiative will inspire all the students to enhance efforts towards the achievement of excellence in the future.”
Among the attendees yesterday were Politeknik Brunei’s Heads of Departments and Heads of Schools and staff, as well as invited guests from Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), Energy Services Business Development, KPMG and Lighthouse Solution.
The exhibition saw the attendees, along with students and teachers from IBTE campuses, secondary schools and institutes of higher education given the chance to observe, to comment and vote on the innovative ideas exhibited by the participants.
The closing ceremony and announcement of winners will be held today.
