In a speech, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan congratulated the outgoing council for the successful completion of their term and the incoming council on their election.
The outgoing president of the BSU, Muhammad Ayyub bin Haji Kamaludin in his speech said, “Alhamdulillah, over the past year, the council had focussed on several matters, including to become more responsive, prudent and relevant. Alhamdulillah, as discussed in the recent annual general meeting, we have seen positive improvements pertaining to these three aspects.”
“We have become more responsive to governmental agencies, other student establishments and to the public sector. More importantly, we have also become more responsive to the welfare of our students in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.”
“A few initiatives have also been planned and implemented, including the launch of our housing portal, academic network and career advice services.”
Addressing the incoming council, Muhammad Ayyub said, “The Brunei Students’ Union differentiates itself from other student unions by playing a strong internal role in terms of providing welfare and consular support, and not just supporting external activities such as event management.”
In a speech, Nur Fifi Hazwani said, “This union has in the past produced leaders who now shape our community. I urge our new council members to be constantly proactive in seeking experience throughout their tenure.
“This may include event management and liaising with the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the Brunei Students Unit and external agencies,” she added.
