THE staff of Brunei Shell Marketing (BSM) personally conveyed their birthday greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the traditional Junjung Ziarah and get-together ceremony yesterday morning, at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
In an interview with the Bulletin, Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, the BSM Managing Director, said, “On behalf of Brunei Shell Marketing and the Brunei Shell Joint Venture Companies, it is a privilege for us to be invited to this year’s Junjung Ziarah and get-together ceremony in the Brunei-Muara District.
“We were able to meet His Majesty in person, while conveying our birthday wishes,” he added.
This year, the company presented a pesambah of a locally-made BSM cycling jersey to His Majesty.
Pengiran Shamhary said, “Given the government’s policy on a healthy lifestyle, as well as His Majesty’s strong support through exercise and recent participation in the Bandarku Ceria event, we chose a cycling jersey as a pesembah for His Majesty.
“We would like to wish His Majesty good health, and may he achieve his aspirations of further developing Brunei through the National Vision 2035.”
Meanwhile, the local Chinese community this year presented three versions of ‘Happy Birthday’ and a special birthday cake for His Majesty.
Soon Seng Lee, a spokesman for Brunei’s Tiong Hua Association, said, “We arranged for young students from Chung Hwa Middle School in Bandar Seri Begawan to sing birthday songs for His Majesty, as well as other songs, to liven up the atmosphere.
“We also presented a cake with the theme ‘Shuo Tao’ longevity peach, a Chinese birthday bun design.”
Members of Indian business associations were also in full force during the Junjung Ziarah yesterday, led by Nazeer Ahmad Zakaria, the President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce of Brunei Darussalam.
He thanked His Majesty for giving the Indian community the opportunity to reside and work in Brunei Darussalam, the Abode of Peace.
Soon and Nazeer conveyed their birthday wishes to His Majesty in Malay.
