THE Women’s Business Council (WBC) recently hosted the WBC Excellent Entrepreneurs Award in conjunction with Women Entrepreneurs Day and the 17th anniversary of WBC Brunei.
Community Development Department (JAPEM) Acting Director cum guest of honour Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Tahir joined members of the Diplomatic Corps, WBC Brunei and invited guests at the dinner at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
In her welcoming remarks, WBC President Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Zakiah highlighted the history and achievements of the council over the past 17 years.
“The WBC was established on June 20, 2000 as a voice for female entrepreneurs in Brunei. It aims at building and promoting female entrepreneurship through business forums, visits and business networking. We are proud of the various achievements established by our members through WBC,” she said.
She also highlighted WBC’s future activities including the upcoming Asean Women in Business Conference in August (to be hosted by WBC Philippines), the Asean Women Entrepreneurs Network and the Asean China Expo in Nanning, China, scheduled for September.
The event continued with a cake-cutting celebrating the anniversary of the WBC Brunei, and the presentation of the WBC Excellent Entrepreneurs Award to six recipients by the guest of honour.
The six awardees were selected based on their business performance, leadership skills, for being role models, and for their continuous commitment to the WBC.
The six were Hajah Mordiah binti Haji Jackia of Mordiah Training and Management Services, Hajah Kamariah binti Hasbullah of HKH Fastfood and Takeaway, Hajah Fatimah binti Pehin Penyurat Haji Md Salleh of Syarikat Melabau Indah Makmur, Hajah Mariah binti Pehin Datu Indera Sugara Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Johari of Triple Sevenz Enterprise, Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Ludin of ISKA:VZ Textiles, and Dayangku Hamdiah binti Pengiran Haji Kahar of D’Valley Industry and Packaging Company.
WBC has become an active body both nationally and internationally, partnering with various associations including APEC Women and Economy Forum (APEC-WE), Asean Women Entrepreneurs Network and Women Business Network of World Islamic Economic Forum.
