DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean has insisted that his side were on top for most of the game and saw little threat originating from the visitors in the aftermath of a 1-0 loss against Geylang International FC in the Great Eastern-Hyundai S League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Monday.

The head coach said that they were on top in terms of possession, corners and second balls as well as creating a bulk of chances but admitted that the statistics that really mattered are goals.

It has been the story of the season for the Gegar Gegar men so far where they have come up short despite asserting authority in the match.

“The performance today was excellent. Looking at the chances of both teams, we had more,” said Kean in a post-match interview with the media.

Daud Gazale missed a penalty for the hosts after the hour mark which turned the tide in favour of the Eagles.

“Obviously the penalty was the turning point. If you looked at the body language of Geylang after we missed, they got a lift while we were down; up till that moment, we had chances.

“The fact we lost the game is the reflection of how it has gone this season,” the head coach said.

He also said that it was a “scrappy” goal to concede but saw very little fault from the defence.

Brazilian forward Rafael Ramazotti is an automatic choice for penalty-taking duties but his injuries meant that responsibility fell to those who are selected in the pitch. Azwan Ali and Shahrazen Said are also candidates as penalty takers.

Kean added that new signing Gazale was not far away from opening his account for his new club.

Meanwhile, Kean’s opposite number Geylang head coach Noor Ali shared that it was a good performance from his charges especially after missing three key players namely Anders Aplin, Victor Coto and Shawal Anuar.
