THE Lela Cheteria Boat Race team comprising 64 paddlers and officers departed for Kedah, Malaysia yesterday to participate in the 1st Langkawi International Dragon Boat Regatta 2017 from July 28–29 at the D’Coconut Villa in Langkawi.
Present to sendoff the team was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara and patron of the Lela Cheteria Boat Race team.
Also present were Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR), who presented the national flag to the patron of Lela Cheteria Boat Race team, who later presented to team manager, Pengarah Haji Brahim bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz in his brief speech urged the team to always keep the image and good name of the country.
“Don’t forget to perform your prayers and show your best efforts in the competition,” he said.
The team will take part in the International Premier Women 12 crews, International Premier Open 22 crews, International Premier Mixed 12 crews and International Premier Open 12 crews categories.
The team will compete with teams from Australia, Canada, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and others.
The Lela Cheteria Boat Race team was established in 2013 and underwent routine training at the Brunei River. The team has won many competitions in Sarawak and Sabah Regatta Races.
Their latest achievement came when they championed the 3rd Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race in Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah last year.
