OVER 500,000 boxes of ‘Kurma Kurnia Peribadi’ or personal gift of dates from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will be distributed to Muslim households nationwide over the coming weeks as the holy month of Ramadhan looms closer.
The dates, which are a staple dish for breaking fast for most Muslim households in the country, will be distributed by mukim penghulus and village heads to Muslims in their respective jurisdictions.
An official distribution ceremony for the dates was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jalan Perdana Menteri yesterday, graced by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) Committee of Governors.
During the ceremony, His Royal Highness presented the dates to grassroots leaders nationwide and also Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commanders and Commandants as well as Formation Directors of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors who is also the Minister of Education, in his speech shared that it took 17 days to ship the dates inside 12 chilled containers.
The dates arrived at Muara Port on April 23. He added that the distribution of dates is unique as it can only be found in Brunei, which demonstrates the love and caring attitude of His Majesty to his people.
This year, some 154 metric tonnes or 513,000 small boxes weighing 300 grammes each, supplied by Al Madinah Dates Company, Saudi Arabia will be distributed to Muslims nationwide.
Also present at the ceremony were Yayasan members of the Committee of Governors, members of the Board of Directors, senior government officials, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Commissioner of Police, district officers, village heads, longhouse chiefs, senior government officers involved in the distribution of dates and representatives of village consultative councils.
