AFTER making Brunei proud at the 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition 1437H/2016M in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the country’s Qari and Qariah were honoured by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) at the Al-Quran Reading Excellence Encouragement Scheme Presentation Ceremony last night at the Mangrove Paradise Resort.
Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki who emerged as the first runner-up in the Qari category received $7,000 and accompanying prize.
Siti Huzaimah Yadey binti Haji Rosli who came third in the Qariah category received $4,000 along with an accompanying prize.
They received their prizes from the guest of honour Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.
Haji Idris bin Haji Aji, the Head of Islamic Eminence Division at the MoRA, said the prizes were presented with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Prize were presented to three Qaris and eight Qariahs who won top places during the International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in Kuala Lumpur.
He added that an Intensive Al-Quran Reading Course was introduced in 2000 to improve the standards of the Qari and Qariah who compete at the international level. It was boosted by the implementation of the Tarannum Al-Quran Workshop led by local and international experts.
MoRA said that there should be a joint effort by all parties to research and develop more effective methods of teaching the tarannum to increase quality of the recitation of the qari and qariah.
“To the successful Qari and Qariah, congratulations on your success and thank you for your perseverance. It is hoped that the expertise you have gained will continue to be sharpened and shared with others,” he said.
The ceremony was enlivened by Al-Quran recitations by the Qari and Qariah.
Also present was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs; the permanent secretary, deputy permanent secretaries, senior officers of the MoRA, as well as family members of the winners.
The 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition 1437H/2016M held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur saw the participation of 38 contestants comprising 22 qaris and 16 qariahs.
