According to Major (Rtd) Mohd Talip, the expedition, organised by the Labuan Canoe Association began on Friday where they stayed overnight at Rusukan Besar Island in Labuan before continuing their journey to Brunei, covering a total distance of 80km.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Labuan Canoe Association said that the kayak expedition was held to mark Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day, celebrated on August 31, and also to promote Labuan as a tourist destination and at the same time, to promote sea sports activity in Labuan especially among Bruneians.

He said that a similar event was organised 10 years ago but without any participation from Brunei.

The President of Brunei Darussalam National Canoe Association also hosted a welcoming dinner for the participants. The Labuan participants will leave the country today.
