HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, in his sabda yesterday stressed the importance for students to work hard.
Highlighting that students are priceless assets, he urged them to build self confidence to achieve excellence and to continue the development of the nation in the future.
His Royal Highness as the Sponsor and Chairperson of the Steering Committee for PENGGERAK Unit at the Prime Minister’s Office said this in his unscheduled visits to Masin Secondary School and Bengkurong Primary School.
He also underscored the role played by teachers in ensuring that students receive support and guidance.
His Royal Highness first visited Masin Secondary School and viewed the school facilities as well as the teaching and learning sessions inside the classrooms and heard teachers’ lesson plans in enhancing the students’ education.
He later chaired a meeting with the deputy principal and senior teachers of the school on its progress especially on efforts to make learning more effective.
His Royal Highness was also briefed on the school’s development plan which comprises strategies to improve and monitor the implementation of teaching and learning.
Masin Secondary School has over 900 students with 109 teachers.
His Royal Highness later proceeded to Bengkurong Primary School and toured the classrooms. His Royal Highness in his sabda urged Year 6 students to study diligently and take advice from teachers and students.
He ended his visit with a discussion with the Principal and teachers on the school’s initiatives to step up its teaching and learning.
The school has over 190 students with over 30 teachers.
Also present were the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim and Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Roselan bin Haji Mohamad Daud.
Others in attendance were the Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, and other senior government officials.
The visit gave an opportunity to His Royal Highness to take a closer look at the schools’ routine as a follow-up to ensure the teaching and learning strategies are implemented.
It is also to assess the progress of the government’s efforts led by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs on the Programmes for International Students’ Assessment (PISA) next year.
The overall aspiration is to uphold the noble intention of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to enhance education in realising the Brunei Vision 2035.
