TEN dancers from the Aquinas University of Legazpi, Philippines, thrilled crowds during a cultural dance showcase at the Asean@50 exhibition at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.
Present at the event was Meynardo LB Montealegre, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam as well as other foreign diplomats.
The dancers, led by choreographer, Marie Veronique Berdin, Acting Director of the Center for sports, wellness, culture and arts of Aquinas University presented six dances – Cariñosa, Jota De Manila, Pastores Camilig, Magalatik, Binasuan and Tinikling.
It took about two weeks for the dancers to prepare for the event.
Jeph Seit Espinosa, one of the dancers, in an interview with the Sunday Bulletin said, “We felt honoured to perform in Brunei for the first time. We represent the whole of the Philippines performing here at the exhibition.”
Jeph hoped to come back to Brunei to perform again and added that it was a great experience.
Visitors also had a chance to observe an Ikebana demo-nstration by Risho Saito.
Cultural performances by Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia will be held today at 9.30am followed by Indonesia at noon. Cultural Performances by Lao PDR will be at 12.30pm followed by Malaysia at 1.45pm.
The finale of the cultural performance by Indonesia and Lao PDR will be at 4.15pm.
