THREE hundred runners sweated it out at the Beachathon Series 2017 at Pantai Seri Kenangan Beach in Tutong yesterday.
Organised by Beach Bunch, the ‘beachathon’ aimed to promote clean beaches and public venues for healthy living and the benefit of the public.
Beach Bunch President Rizan bin Latiff noted that yesterday’s event was categorised into three runs: a 1km run (for children), 3km run (open), and a 5km run (on beach).
The run was flagged off at Pantai Seri Kenangan Beach and ended at Tanjung Batu in Tutong.
“This is our second event, the first one was in Kuala Belait last July, and we will have our third beachathon in mid-November in the Brunei-Muara District,” Rizan said, adding that “The medals awarded will be unique for the Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara districts.”
“The run was all about gathering people at the beach to have fun and stay healthy. This is one or our objectives, to promote clean beaches in Brunei and a place for people to enjoy and stay healthy,” he added.
Beach Bunch is a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) run by young, beach-loving locals advocating pollution- and waste-free beaches in the country through awareness education, conservation and beach cleanups, health and fitness activities, as well as life-saving training exercises.
The group had organised river and island cleanups.
