ROTARIAN Lam Soong Meng was elected the President of the Bandar Seri Begawan Rotary Club, during the 53rd installation ceremony held yesterday at the Orchid Garden Hotel, which was witnessed by District Governor 3310 Datuk Lee Chuen Wan.
Lam will be assisted by Rotarian Jimmy Chung Sze Kiat, the Honorary Secretary, together with Rotarian Ricky Ng Kim Hock, the Vice-President and the Rotary Foundation Chair.
Rotarian Henry Ting is the Immediate Past President, while the President-elect is Rotarian Chris Yong.
The Honorary Treasurer posi-tion went to Rotarian Leonida Lim, while the Club Administration Chair is Rotarian Wong Chin Toon. The post of Membership Chair went to Rotarian Muthukrishnan Balasundaram, and the Public Relations Chair is Rotarian Angela Sim.
The Service Projects Chair is Rotarian Clement Yong Chin Siong, and the Vocational Service Chair is Rotarian Pek Hai Hin. The Community Service Chair is Rotarian Han Kiem Kwang, and the International Service Chair is Rotarian Jerry Neo Eng Boon.
The newly elected president in his speech, said, “Each and every one of us has a soft spot hidden in our hearts. As we grow along with society, we all desire to find ways to help the underprivileged or less fortunate, but we have limitations with our own individual strength. The same applies to me.”
Recalling his own experience in joining the Rotary Club, Lam said, “Eleven years ago, a friend invited me for dinner at a hotel. I was excited to accept, only to find out that he actually wanted to introduce me to the Rotary…I was inducted by the late Past District Governor, Ben Cheng, and the rest is history. My thanks to that friend, District Governor Nominee Jeff Yong.”
Regarding upcoming projects, he said, “Many projects with local and overseas communities are already being lined up for this year. Some new projects have been added; however nothing can materialise without the generous support of the public.”
Datuk Lee, meanwhile, applauded the work of the Bandar Seri Begawan Rotary Club, in assisting the people of the rural areas in Sarawak, Malaysia. He also expressed the hope that its membership would continue their efforts to serve and help the underprivileged.
