THE Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) held a Korban ceremony in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations yesterday.

The event, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Fire and Rescue Department, Berakas and coordinated by the Fire and Rescue Department and the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), was one of the annual events held by MoHA as a symbol of gratitude to Allah the Almighty for blessings and abundant favours, and also as an opportunity for the working community under MoHA to gather and perform Korban, which is demanded and highly valued in Islam.

Korban is an Islamic practice performed by sacrificing one’s own livestock and then distributing the meat to other people, particularly those in need, as a symbol of personal sacrifice in the form of giving away valuable possessions.

In Islam, Korban is highly demanded and the act is said to earn blessings or rewards that will be counted during the Day of Judgement from Allah the Almighty, and should be performed by those having the means.

The rites should be performed during Hari Raya Aidiladha in the Haj season, on the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th Zulhijjah of the Islamic calendar.

Animals permitted for use in the Korban ceremony are livestock such as goat, sheep, cow, buffalo or camel.
