THE Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, attended the Special Session for Asean Labour Ministers on Occupational Safety and Health.
The event was held on the margins of the 21st World Congress on Safety and Health at Work on September 3 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, according to press release.
During the Special Session, Asean Labour Ministers had officially endorsed and signed the joint ‘Asean Labour Ministers’ Statement on Improving Occupational Safety and Health for Sustainable Economic Growth’.
In his supporting remarks during the session, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar applauded the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore, on hosting the world’s largest occupational safety and health event for the first time in Southeast Asia. He also expressed that the Asean region can learn much on approaches to safety and health in the ever-changing economic and social spheres by leveraging on Asean’s Plus Three partnerships and through relations with international expert organisations.
Asean Labour Ministers also had the opportunity to exchange views in meeting with Le Luong Minh, the Secretary-General of Asean, Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and Dr Joachim Breuer, President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
Following the session, the Minister of Home Affairs and Asean Labour Ministers attended a reception hosted by Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore.
