HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), presented certificates to 863 graduates during the morning session of the 29th UBD Convocation Ceremony, held at the Chancellor Hall yesterday.
In the afternoon session, a total of 455 graduates received their certificates from His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UBD.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal followed by singing of the national anthem. His Royal Highness proceeded to the podium and delivered a sabda to mark the 29th UBD Convocation Ceremony which was followed by the presentation of certificates to the fresh graduates.
Graduates from the Faculty of Science received their certificates in Master of Science for Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Energy Studies, Biodiversity, Computer Science, Biotechnology and Geosciences.
Meanwhile, Master’s graduates from the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences received their certificates in Public Health, Biomedical Science and Primary Health Care.
The diploma recipients from the same institute were also presented certificates for health science courses for Midwifery, Nursing and Paramedic.
Graduates from the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education received their master’s certificates in Teaching and Counselling.
Diploma graduates from the Centre of Lifelong Learning were also presented with certificates in various courses including Education, Counselling and Inclusive Education.
There were 1,308 students who graduated this year including 36 PhD graduates, surpassing last year record of 28. The total number of graduating students comprise 346 Master’s holders, 873 Bachelor’s graduates as well as one Advanced Diploma and 98 Diploma recipients. The 29th Convocation Ceremony also saw the graduation of 66 international students in UBD.
On hand to welcome His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah at the Chancellor Hall was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education and Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD.
Prior to leaving the ceremony, His Royal Highness spent time to mingle with the fresh graduates and their parents.
