THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) recently donated interactive smartboards and school supplies to a public school in Lebanon to help students who will be starting the new school term.
The donations to Yatar Public School, comprising five sets of interactive smartboards and 104 school bags, were handed over by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) contingent in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peace mission, under the Civilian Military Cooperation Programme (CIMIC).
With the contribution, students of the Yatar Public School are expected to be more equipped for the new term, said Mayor of Yatar Municipality Khalil Kouran. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude towards the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for its humanitarian contributions that extended beyond its mission mandate. The CIMIC programme offers opportunities for the RBAF contingent to contribute and work alongside with the local community through various socio-cultural activities.
The ceremony for the donation project commenced with the recitation of verses from Al-Quran and a Doa Selamat, followed by a speech by the RBAF Contingent Commander, Major Mohammad Azhan bin Haji Ahmad, who highlighted the continued commitments of the RBAF towards UNIFIL, in accordance to the mandate by the United Nations (UN) while bridging and enhancing the people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Also present to support the project was Colonel Reizal Arif bin Tan Sri Ismail, Commander of Malaysia Batallion (MALBATT) 850-4.
Brunei has been part of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission since 2008, under the command of their Malaysian counterpart.
