A PASSING Out Parade was held yesterday morning at the Penanjong Garrison. A total of 157 male recruits of the 159th intake of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) marched into the parade grounds of the Training Institute RBAF, marking the end of their 27-week Basic Military Training.
The guest of honour, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar inspected the parade, delivered a speech and presented awards to the instructors and recruits who performed and achieved excellent results during the course of the training.
The recipients were 52053 Recruit Mohd Nurariffin bin Mohd Husain for Best Overall Male Recruit, 52132 Recruit (L) Mohd Suhairi bin Suaraday for Best in Physical Training, 52150 Recruit (U) Mohd Syafiq Zulhilmi bin Haji Suhaimi for Best Military Skills, 52056 Recruit Mohd Daneeal Asyraf bin Saindi for the Best in Small Arms Training, 16819 Corporal Rano Zakhran bin Tajudin for Best Male Instructor and 17485 Sergeant Julaihi bin Shari for Best Male Platoon Sergeant.
Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman in his speech said defending the peace and harmony of the country is the responsibility of all citizens. For those in the military, it is their main task.
He also advised the new military personnel on matters related to discipline and sacrifices. He said maintaining a high-level of discipline outside working hours is a must for military personnel, without which an army could be seen as weak or ineffective.
He also said that a military career requires sacrifices, as stated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the RBAF at the recent sovereign parade, where sacrifices for the religion, people and the beloved nation is unending.
The permanent secretary also congratulated the recruits as well as their parents and families for their successes.
Also present were the Acting Commander of the RBAF, Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, services commanders, commandants, senior officers, officers and other ranks of RBAF, as well as families of the recruits.
