Over 400 Cub Scouts complete training

THE 4th Brunei Darussalam Cuboree which was held in conjunction with the 100th year celebration of Cub Scouts, especially for members studying at government and private primary schools in the country, ended yesterday at the National Scout and Activity Training Centre, Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD), Scout Complex, Jalan Gadong.

The closing ceremony of the six-day event was officiated by the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The event, held from March 18-23 gathered over 400 local and overseas participants. It was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association through Cub Scout Section in collaboration with the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education.

Cub Scouts is one of the sections of the World Organisation of Scouts Movement. The aims of the Cuboree are to give opportunities for Cub Scouts to gain experience and applying Scout learning knowledge outside the classroom.

The local entries to the Cuboree – also known as Jamboree – comprised 270 participants from nine government primary schools and 10 private primary schools. Malaysia Scout Association’s branches at Perak, Selangor, Terengganu, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan sent 170 participants. Singapore was represented by two special observers.

Hajah Noraini binti Haji Saidi, Head Quarters Scout Commissioner for Cub Scout Section cum Camp Chief of the 4th Brunei Darussalam Cuboree, said in her speech that the support of overseas participants lifted the event to an international level.

On behalf of PPNBD, she expressed appreciation to the Malaysia Scout Association for sending a delegation of 142 participants from seven states. She also thanked all the Cub Scouts team leaders and assistant leaders for leading and taking care of the children who participated in the jamboree.

Various interesting activities were held during the event which includes Challenges Valley, Cub Scout Skills, creative art, Scout games, educational tour to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and visits to the Royal Regalia Building, Brunei Technology Museum and Marine Museum.

Participants who successfully completed the activities were awarded with ‘Pelanduk Award Badge’. Contingent leaders were presented with certificate of appreciation and certificate of participation during the Scout Night.
