THE Magnificent Indonesia Exhibition 2017, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Brunei Darussalam, was officially launched in a ceremony yesterday at The Mall, Gadong.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Development Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar as the guest of honour, as well as the ambassadors and high commissioners of a number of countries in Brunei.

In her speech during the launch, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam, Nurul Qomar said that as with previous years, “the Embassy of Indonesia has organised the Indonesian product exhibition as part of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations”.

The ambassador expressed her hope that through participation in the exhibition, Indonesian companies will be able to expand their business into international markets and enhance their competitiveness. “We believe Brunei Darussalam is one of the best places to fulfil these goals,” she said.

“The theme ‘Magnificent Indonesia Exhibition 2017’ depicts Indonesia’s archipelagic position, highlighting its abundant and diverse natural and cultural resources, and ethnic makeup, which is spread throughout the country. These are significant and valuable offerings; from the country’s natural beauty, historical heritage and cultural diversity, to its delectable culinary attractions, stunning batiks, and quality artistic handmade products and handicrafts.

“As we matured as a nation, Indonesia also enhanced its human resources to enable the country to manufacture some of the most sophisticated technology-based products, including military equipment and transportation, which we can observe being on display today.”

The ambassador also shared that participating at the exhibition are a combination of Indonesian- and Bruneian-based companies, such as PT PAL Bhayangkari, ASEPHI, IPEMI (Association of Indonesian Muslimah Entrepreneurs), RADIMS, Indadi Utama (M) Sdn Bhd and Sari Ayu Martha Tilaar.

Other companies involved include PT Pindad, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, Lundin and PT Regio Aviasi Industri, who are showcasing their products through sample offerings and brochures.

“Besides promoting Indonesian products, the exhibition is intended to solidify cooperation and the relationship between Indonesian and Bruneian business communities,” she added. “In this sense, I am urging the Indonesian companies participating in the exhibition to set up networks with Bruneian partners to serve a larger market, regionally and beyond.

“I would also like to urge Bruneian companies to seek potential cooperation with Indonesian partners,” she continued, encouraging both parties to work together in forging better cooperation for the benefit of both sides.

The exhibition will run until September 17.
