THE Brunei Film Blitz will be the finale for the Brunei December Festival. This was announced at a press conference at the headquarters of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd (PCSB) yesterday.
Brunei Tourism in collaboration with the Origin Artistic Management will be launching the Brunei Film Blitz.
This will be an exciting event for the local film industry, said Siti Kamaluddin, the Director of Brunei Film Blitz.
“Hopefully this event will help to nurture creativity in filmmaking as well as discover new talents in the art of filmmaking,” she said.
Siti Kamaluddin expressed her hope that more directors can come forward to take part in the event where the sharing of ideas and information can be generated for a fruitful and progressive outcome.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali said this is an important event for the tourism industry in Brunei Darussalam, and is part of the fun and interesting events and programmes touted for the Brunei December Festival.
This will also be an opportune moment for the film industry where stakeholders from private and public sectors can work together to develop both the film and tourism sectors, he added.
The Brunei Film Blitz can be an excellent platform for creative Bruneians to take part in filmmaking so the industry can grow, he said.
The Brunei Film Blitz will be held from December 29-31. The three-day event will include a screening of shortlisted films, master classes with industry professionals, a 48-hour Film Blitz and an awards night. The films can be from any languages.
The event consists of two categories: the open category where filmmakers can submit their films of any genre whether it is fiction, documentary or animation.
Whereas the other category is the 48-Hour Film Blitz, a challenge in which a participant shoots a film within 48 hours.
Participants will be given a ‘secret ingredient’ that has to be included in their film on December 29 for submission on December 31.
The winning films of each category will be announced, awarded and screened on the night of December 31 at the Brunei Film Blitz Gala Ceremony.
Participants of the two categories will stand a chance to win $5,000 and camera and $10,000 and a camera respectively.
The film blitz is a film showcase that aims to foster, educate and spur the creativity of filmmakers in Brunei Darussalam.
To prepare participants for the Brunei Film Blitz, Origin Artistic Management will host a workshop on Friday, September 29 with international industry professionals, Dr Alex Fischer from the United States and Jedd Cahill from Australia.
Registration of participants for both categories will be opened from September 18.
