THE Brunei Darussalam Go Association (BDGA) was recently represented by its President, Lim Chai Hui and one player, Chin Sin Voon, during the 19th Yan-Huang Cup World Chinese Elite Invitational Go Tournament, at the One Farrer Hotel and Spa in Singapore.
Sponsored by Dr Huang Shang Zhe, the Executive Director of MC Packaging in Singapore, the tournament marked the first entry and participation of the BDGA, since its establishment in 2007.
In an interview, Lim said that the event presented an opportunity for them to meet established players and broaden their social networking in the realm of sport and business.
She added, “It’s always a pleasure to meet up with players from Southeast Asia, who have become close friends over the years.”
Chin, meanwhile, said that he was pleased that the BDGA is receiving more attention from the international Go community, along with invitations to friendly meets and tournaments.
Future players from Brunei, he said, “will have a lot of activities to participate in. This tournament has proven that our skills are almost on the same level as the stronger players from other countries, while also broadening our friendships and cultural insights.
“The participants of the Yan-Huang Cup are elites from many walks of life such as politicians, businessmen, sporting celebrities and so on. This is the first time that the Yan Huang Cup is held outside of China, symbolising a spirit of solidarity among Chinese people worldwide.”
The 20th edition of the tournament will be held at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, next year.
