UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) signed a collaboration agreement with FPT University (FPTU) for the setting up of the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab, a unique innovation lab where training and research are based on an industrial model with hands-on experience.
Signing on behalf of UBD was Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Global Affairs), while representing FPTU was its Vice Chairman, Dr Nam Nguyen Thanh. The signing ceremony was held at the ILIA Lecture Theatre, UBD, the press release said.
Present as guest of honour at the signing ceremony was Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and UBD Council Member.
Also witnessing the ceremony was Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD.
The innovation lab will be based at the University Technology Hub Building, UBD, supported by FPT, the largest IT enterprise in Vietnam.
The collaboration agreement formalises the setting up of the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab in UBD. It offers a 16-week project-based training programme by expert industry mentors for students to learn and apply the latest innovations in IT such as mobile applications, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), big data and cyber security. Students will also have the opportunity to work on real-world projects from industry and improve their teamwork skills in software development projects. Training will be tailored for different levels of expertise.
In addition, the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab will support the development of joint research between UBD and FPTU. The Lab will also offer part-time 16-week training programmes, training consultancies for Training of Trainers (TOT) and short-term courses. It aims to be the leading innovation and software development training programme and consultancy in Brunei and the region.
The setting up of the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab is in line with UBD’s Vision 2020 to be a ‘University of Innovation and Enterprise’. UBD is a world-ranked university, this year ranking 37th in the world for universities under 50 years and 349th amongst all universities in the world.
FPT University, a private university established by FPT Corporation the biggest info-technology company in Vietnam, has more than 20 branches globally. The university has a campus in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi, and two others campuses in FPT City – Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.
