EIGHT teams booked their berths into the next round in the Golden Jubilee Brunei Futsal Cup 2017 after finishing in the top two of their respective groups on Sunday.
The teams that have safely sealed their passage are Shah United and Redbutterfly from Group ‘F’, Brunei 88 A FT and Matahari ‘A’ from Group ‘E’, ISC and FFC from Group ‘D’ and Matahari ‘B’ and Kota Junior from Group ‘C’.
Shah United topped Group F with five points followed by Redbutterfly with a point behind. Even though PES collected four points, they fell short of making it to the next round only by goal difference.
Brunei 88 A FT and Matahari ‘A’ shared eight points and nine goals scored each in Group ‘E’ but the former clinched top spot because they conceded two goals only, a goal less than the latter.
Dominating Group ‘D’ were ISC who recorded seven points with FFC shocking Street United to steal second spot in the decider with six points.
Group ‘C’ lived to its billing as the ‘Group of Death’, which included several prominent players in the country from Creativol, Matahari ‘B’, HS FT AMCSK, Kota Junior and Metamen Vamos FT, showing stern competition.
Even though Matahari ‘B’ suffered a 1-0 loss to HS FT AMCSK, they bounced back after picking consecutive 1-0 wins to collect a grand total of nine points, two ahead of Kota Junior who settled for second place.
The competition which is taking place at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, will continue on Oct 1 with matches in Group ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘G’ and ‘H’ to determine the remaining eights slots for the second round.
A total of 35 teams participated in the competition organised by the Brunei-Muara District Office with the cooperation of Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).
