FIVE academic staff members of the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) led by Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA, committed to share the results of their research at the 10th International Islamic Borneo Confere-nce (KAIB X) at the Universitas Mulawarman (UNMUL), Samarinda of Kalimantan Timur in Indonesia.
Themed ‘Tamadun Islam di Kepulauan Borneo: Impak Terhadap Pembangunan Ummah Wasatiyyah’, KAIB X is an annual conference led by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak in collaboration with UiTM Sabah; UNISSA of Brunei Darussalam; UNMUL Samarinda; Universitas Lambung Mangkurat of Banjarmasin; Institut Agama Islam Negeri Pontianak (IAIN Pontianak); and Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) of Brunei Darussalam.
Dr Haji Norarfan, the keynote speaker in his paper entitled ‘Brunei Darussalam’s experience in developing Islam Wasatiyyah’, shared how Brunei Darussalam under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam strived to uphold Islam as a complete way of life in state, society and religion.
This development could be seen from various aspects of development which included education, economy, legislation, administration and so on, he added.
The UNISSA’s Rector also explained that the Government of Brunei Darussalam prioritised the aspect of Allah the Almighty’s blessing in the development of society and country.
One hundred and eleven papers including nine main papers were presented at the conference. Also present as the main speakers in the conference were Governor of East Kaliman-tan and Menteri Muda Utiliti Sarawak.
The conference ended yesterday.
