A WORKSHOP teaching participants the proper methods of wearing the Dastar (traditional Malay headdress) and Sinjang was organised by the Malay Kedayan Association (PEMEDAYAN) last Sunday.
The workshop, part of PEMEDAYAN’s monthly activities, was held at the Mukim Sengkurong Community Hall and facilitated by a local expert, Haji Abu Bakar bin Mansor, the Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas.
Some 30 members of PEMEDAYAN including several women members attended the workshop.
Following the demonstrations, participants were given the chance to put on the garbs under the close supervision of the facilitator.
The highlight of the workshop was the competition for the best-worn Dastar and
Sinjang.
The traditional headdress is often worn during official state functions and by grooms, while the Sinjang is part of the traditional Malay attire.
A PEMEDAYAN spokesman said that their next workshop will be on the traditional game of Kuit.
Formed in 2014, PEMEDAYAN has over 100 members.
