Saudi-Brunei ties strong with firm roots

THE Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Brunei Darussalam yesterday hosted a dinner reception in conjunction with the 87th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Hotel & Country Club, last night.

The guest of honour was the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Brunei Darussalam, Hisham bin Abdul Wahab bin Abdullah Zaraa, said Saudi-Brunei relationships are distinguished, strong and historic with firm roots that have been established for a long time, and it is based on mutual respect and foundation bound by maintaining their respective interests as well as their desire to maintain the world’s peace and stability.

“I have been honoured along with my colleagues to witness the historic visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud to Brunei Darussalam at the beginning of March 2017 as a response to a kind invitation from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, which is considered as the first official visit by a Saudi monarch,” he said.

“The visit received an overwhelming attention and extensive welcome and hospitality,” the ambassador said.

“The visit achieved the objectives of the two countries’ consensus on cooperation on overall matters in addition to strengthening of cooperation and coordination in all political, economic, security, and religious fields as well as to broaden the vistas of the commercial cooperation and investment between the two countries,” he said.

The ambassador expressed Saudi Arabia’s congratulations to His Majesty on the occasion of 50 years of his ascension to the throne, with appreciation to His Majesty’s Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Brunei in particular, and to the people of Brunei Darussalam for the support and facilitation provided to the embassy to carry its duties in the best possible way.

The speech was followed by a ceremonial cake cutting by the guest of honour and the ambassador together with invited guests. The dinner reception yesterday was also attended by senior government officials and various diplomats from foreign missions in the country.

The reception began with the singing of the national anthems of both countries and the recitation of verses from Al-Quran.
