THE Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi officiated the prize presentation ceremony for the Syarahan Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) competition in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the Religious Development Officer, Haji Fansuri Sharimi @ Mansur bin Md Ali followed by welcoming remarks from the Acting Director of Islamic Da’wah Centre, Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh in his capacity as the chairman of the organising committee.
Sixty-one participants competed in the preliminary round and 22 made it to the final comprising six each representing the Brunei-Muara and Belait Districts and five each representing the Tutong and Temburong Districts.
It was divided into three categories – Category A for Higher Learning Institution aged 17 to 25 years, Category B for IBTE/Secondary Schools aged 12 to 20 years and Category C for public aged 25 above.
The working committee of Pemberigaan MIB is under the Media, Publicity, Exhibition and Printing Secretariat and the Islamic Da’wah Centre and the Department of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as the Department of Co-Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education and is supported by Insurans Islam Taib Sdn Bhd as sponsor of the cash prizes.
The Chief Judge, Isham bin Ismail, presented an overview of the competition.
He pointed out that participants were able to manage and present their topics creatively, excellent ideas were presented with good and clear examples, presentation styles were organised and had their own strength, and were able to insert current issues relevant with the contents.
On their weaknesses, he said the topic was out of theme, not related to the nation’s principle in its content, misreading verses of Al-Quran and translating inaccurate contents, not fully ready in delivering the talk, several mistakes in delivering important facts, wrong pronunciation of Hadiths and inaccurate reading like reading a text message.
Categories A and C saw seven participants while Category B had eight participants.
There were three themes for the participants to choose – ‘Melayu Islam Beraja’, ‘Lagu Kebangsaan Allah Peliharakan Sultan’ and ‘Titah Permasyhuran Kemerdekaan’. Each participant was required to choose and present theirs based on the chosen theme.
The Champion in Category A was Siti Nurul Afiah binti Haji Zaidin with 78 points who received a cash prize of $800. The first runner-up was Muhammad Iqbaal Syakib bin Haji Suhib with 77.5 points who received $600 while the second runner-up Mazfazillah bin Maikal with 70.5 points received $400.
Muhammad Firdaus bin Sait won Category B with 71 points and walked away with $600 followed by second place winner Mohammad Najihuddin bin Nooralizam with 69.75 points who received $400 while Halimatus Rabeatul binti Huzaimi in third place with 65 points received $200.
Norfadizlina binti Haji Abdul Rahman took up the top spot in Category C and won a $600 cash prize, while Haji Muhamad Naqib bin Haji Awang came in second with a $400 cash prize and Siti Al-Asmah binti Haji Rosli came in third with a $200 cash prize.
Each winner received a trophy as well.
