Municipal Dept holds religious ceremony at Royal Mausoleum

A SURAH Yaasiin and Tahlil recitation ceremony were held yesterday for Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at the Royal Mausoleum in the capital.

The ceremony, organised by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, was held to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the changing of the name of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan.

Present at the ceremony were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Legislative Council members; permanent secretaries; deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments; Municipal Board members; senior officers; officers and staff of departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs; as well as mukim penghulus and village heads from the surrounding areas of Bandar Seri Begawan.

The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pengiran Haji Mohd Hafizuddin bin Pengiran Haji Bakar, Mosque Affairs Officer of the Kampong Belimbing Subok Mosque. This was followed by the mass recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil. An estimated 250 participants took part in the ceremony.

The ceremony was organised to recognise the contributions of a much loved monarch who was known as ‘Brunei’s Architect of Modernity’. Brunei Darussalam has gone through rapid advancement and growth in terms of infrastructure and facilities and public amenities as well as recreational parks, all prepared to be enjoyed by the public, in an atmosphere of a peaceful country under the protection of Allah the Almighty.
