IT WAS a proud moment for some 802 graduates as they gathered to receive their certificates yesterday during the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Convocation at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, which was graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of UTB.

A handful of the graduates shared their thoughts with the Sunday Bulletin on the challenges and trials they faced in achieving what they see as the crowning reward for their hard work throughout their time in UTB all these years.

Muhammad Fadzil bin Haji Mohd Tejudin, who has successfully completed his Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Information Systems, noted that his greatest challenge was finishing assigned projects within the allocated time and required parameters. He also shared that his experiences at UTB have helped shape him into a better and more confident person.

Honours student Hanan Zafirah @ Nurul Hidayah binti Haji Suhaili meanwhile shared that during her three-year Bachelor of Business in Finance and E-business, she encountered quite a few ups and downs, but learnt to handle the various responsibilities and challenges she faced.

For Quraishia Sarah binti Abdul Ghani, the strong support from her lecturers and fellow peers throughout her studies has been immensely helpful, and for that, she is very thankful.

“My time in UTB has been challenging but fun because I received a lot of help from lecturers, staff, colleagues and friends. We strive to achieve success together and help each other out through the tough times we encountered such as working and studying in UTB till late at night and exercising together to stay healthy,” the Bachelor of Science in Creative Multimedia recipient said.

Awangku Mohd Fathullah Syamim bin Pengiran Mohd Wahab, a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering graduate, shared that the toughest moment for him during his studies was completing his thesis.

“To complete my thesis, initially the product (required to be built for the thesis) needed specialised equipments that are currently not available. To overcome this, with the help of my supervisor, I decided to approach the thesis with an economical mindset, meaning I used only available equipment and resources,” he says. “In the end I managed to build the product and have it manufactured with reduced cost, using only locally available materials.”
