TWO local golfers earned the ticket to compete with golfers around the world after emerging as champion of the 8th Audi quattro Cup Brunei Charity Golf Tournament.
With 43 points, Latif Ghariff and Haji Mohd Som were declared this year’s winner of the three-day tournament by TCY Motors Sdn Bhd, the sole dealer of Audi in Brunei, during the prize presentation at the Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club in Jerudong yesterday.
As the winning team, they also qualified for the Audi quattro Cup World Final 2017 to be held at the Quivira Golf Club, Los Cabos, in Mexico, from December 1-5.
Second place winner went to the team comprising Pengiran Ahmad Zaki bin Pengiran Jambol and Kim Wonk Yang with 42 points, on count back.
In the third place, also with 42 points, were Haji Amir Osman and Pengiran Saiful Rizal.
The guest of honour, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof presented the trophies to the winners.
At the end of the charity event, a final figure of $22,200 was collected from golfers’ entry fees, which was donated to the National Welfare Body Fund under the Community Development Department (JAPEM). The minister presented the mock cheque of the donation to JAPEM’s Acting Director Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Tahir. More than 90 teams of golfers participated in this year’s local edition of the global amateur golf tournament.
