Nationwide cleaning campaign begins

A NATIONWIDE cleaning campaign themed ‘Clean and Green Brunei’ was launched yesterday during the Bandarku Ceria at Bandar Seri Begawan.

The campaign aims to create a clean atmosphere and environment ahead of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.

Present at the event were Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong; Minister of Development, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah; and Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi in their capacity as advisors of the Cleanliness Issues Committee.

The campaign began with the unveiling of a ‘scroll banner’, followed by a presentation of dustbins donated by private companies and non-governmental organisations including LSL Sdn Bhd, Institution of Surveyors, Engineers and Architects (PUJA) Brunei, Telekom Brunei Berhad and Daelim Swee JV.

Also held during the launching were various activities and exhibitions on environmental awareness and achievements by local organisations such as Brunei Environmental Youth Envoys, The Beach Bunch, Green Brunei, Politeknik Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students under the Discovery Year programme, Ash-Shaliheen Mosque’s Youth Association and UBD Shell Eco-Marathon.

Additionally, the campaign aims to create awareness among citizens and residents of this country in maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the environment as well as in achieving the aspiration of Brunei Vision 2035. Members of the public are urged to protect all public facilities from vandalism.
