THE final preliminary round for the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) Science Show Competition played out at OGDC yesterday for teams from the Brunei-Muara District.
The participating teams include students from St George’s School, Seri Mulia Sarjana School and Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School.
This final round saw the highest number of registered teams, 25 in total, vying for the top two positions of their respective categories – Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary categories.
The teams with the highest score will move on to the November 26 finals, where they will battle it out with teams from the Belait and Tutong districts.
Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education Lecturer Dr Roslinawati binti Mohd Roslan and OGDC Exhibition Head Nur Karnina binti Karim adjudged the performances yesterday, with students putting on a strong show of creativity and science knowledge.
The teams proved that sophisticated items were not necessary in staging their performances, using instead recycled or easily found everdaymaterials to impress the judges and audience.
OGDC will make available videos of the science shows on its Facebook page, allowing supporters, friends and teachers to cast their votes for their favourite video simply by clicking the ‘like’ button. Twenty per cent of the overall score will be derived from social media votes.
Teams who will move on to the finals will get to select one of the OGDC science communicators to be their personal coach, allowing for intensive training before the finale.
