PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL) management and staff planted over 150 tree saplings at the Berakas Forest Reserve recently in conjunction with World Environment Day 2017 to raise awareness on the importance of preserving forests in the country.
The event was a joint effort between PCBL and Beach Bunch, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), and supported by the Forestry Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).
Sharminan Bohari, the Country Chair for PCBL, said the tree saplings were planted at the forest reserve to prevent land erosion and support the ecosystem. “PCBL is looking forward to collaborate with NGOs further to help protect and sustain the environment as part of our corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Three types of tree saplings were provided by the Forestry Department, namely Ru Runang (Casuarina nobilis), Tolong (Agatha borneensis) and Gaharu (Aquilaria malaccensis), trees which are endemic to the location. A total of 55 PCBL staff participated at the event.
