WONG Chean Cheng and Muhd Fadil Adil Liew, Brunei’s representatives at the regional final of the Land Rover Experience Tour in Laos, have returned with a suitcase of unforgettable memories and experiences of overcoming the challenges at the prestigious event, which ran from September 29 to October 1.

Wong was selected to represent the Sultanate after completing the Brunei Qualification Event (in late August) as top scorer. Jaguar Land Rover gave the 26-year-old the opportunity to compete against 15 others from the Asia Pacific region, comprising Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Speaking to the Bulletin, Wong said, “Everything was amazing. It was an unforgettable journey from the start to the end. The Land Rover Experience Tour in Laos was a true off road experience.

“We used the Discovery Sport and tackled every obstacle we encountered during the two-day event. The obstacle included driving on roads that were gravel, rocky, muddy, with deep pot holes, as well as maneuvering up and down slippery hills.”

The ‘Blindfold and Communications’ challenge is by far his fondest memory. In it, Wong was tasked with maneuvering the vehicle while blindfolded, depending only on Muhd Fadil for instructions.

“The off-road modes really fulfilled the vehicle’s purpose, especially the Hill Decent Control Mode, which allowed us to have a smooth descent on a steep hill with minimal brake applied. The Discovery Sport is truly an off-road vehicle.”

Four winners from the regional finals along with partners will join the Land Rover Experience Tour Peru 2017 from November 4 – 9.

Participants will set off from Huancayo and drive almost 400 miles over the Peruvian mountains and through the desert to Pisco, Peru. They will take the all new Discovery on a range of terrains including sand dunes, rocky riverbeds and mountains roads.

On Wednesday, Wong Chean Cheng and Muhd Fadil will learn how they fared at the Laos event, and if they will be joining the Land Rover Experience Tour Peru 2017.

Families members and officials from Indera Motors Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of Jaguar Land Rovers in Brunei Darussalam, were at the Brunei International Airport to welcome the pair home.
