THE Commemorative Stamps and First Day Envelopes received a positive response from the public especially stamp collectors with many waiting for the counter of the General Post Office in Bandar Seri Begawan to open at 8am to purchase the stamps for their collection.
The Commemorative Stamps and First Day Envelopes are issued by the Postal Services Department in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
Imran, one of the stamp collectors, said collecting commemorative stamps to remember historic moments is his hobby.
“It is a very special day as we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne,” he said.
“As one of the longest reigning monarch’s, the stamps will serve as a reminder for future generations that we were among the lucky ones to witness the auspicious occasion,” he added.
The Commemorative Stamps and First Day Envelopes are can be bought from various branches of the Postal Services Department comprising Mail Processing Centre (MPC), Gadong, Seri Complex, Muara, Sengkurong, Tutong, Seria and Kuala Belait.
Apart from the commemorative stamps, the department is also issuing a Special Edition Stamp that is limited to only 500 units. This includes one piece of gold stamp (99.99 per cent) weighing three grammes with serial number 001-500; a piece of the Envelope with four Commemorative Stamps; one special box made of Nyatoh wood; Authenticity Certificate; and a brief introduction of the Golden Jubilee Celebration.
The Special Edition Stamp products will be available at $480 per unit and can be purchased through reservation or directly at the counter at the General Post Office in the capital.
