THE 10th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE) was recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the theme ‘Rural Transformation: Enhancing Human Capital Towards a Resilient Rural Community’.
Organised by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development of Malaysia, the meeting was officiated by Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Deputy Minister of Malaysia.
Present as the representative of Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia as Acting Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as well as officials, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Brunei Darussalam.
During the 10th AMRDPE Meeting, Brunei Darussalam presented the speech of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports which stated that the development of human capital to build the rural community’s vitality can provide substantial benefits to the efforts of a country in developing the country and eradicate poverty.
In this direction, MoHA, in collaborat-ion with MCYS, and other stakeholders has and is currently implementing several programmes to build a more sustainable rural community.
These efforts include developing sustainable economy of mukim and villages through the ‘One Village, One Product’ Project; developing the sustainability of leadership institutions by reviewing the Penghulu Service Scheme and the Village Head to improve the quality of leadership, responsibility and credibility of appointed grassroots leaders; as well as building resilient community through initiatives foster-ing the core values ??of society, which in turn contributes to the development of a united society in line with the Brunei Vision 2035 under the Social Security Strategy.
