DONATIONS in kind from Brunei for Marawi residents under siege in southern Philippines will be ferried home by BRP Andres Bonifacio, a lead ship of the Philippine Navy on a nine-day goodwill visit to Brunei that ends today.
The Filipino community in Brunei has produced 40 boxes of clothes, shoes, slippers, cup and instant noodles, biscuit, and toys through the Filipino Association in Brunei at a moment’s notice.
They were loaded yesterday onto the naval frigate moored at the Muara Commercial Port, said Filipino Association in Brunei (FAB) Vice President Malou Ramos-Wong.
“Earlier, we had collected and distributed five boxes of donations for Marawi. When the BRP Andres Bonifacio arrived to join the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne, Philippine Defence and Armed Forces Attache Colonel Ernest Mac P Rosal encouraged us to load more donations in kind into the frigate for the benefit of Marawi evacuees,” Malou said yesterday.
Engineer Naida R Basher in Cagayan de Oro City, whose sister, Naima, is a teacher in Bandar Seri Begawan, will receive the donated goods for distribution to Marawi evacuees in southern Mindanao.
SN2 Ordona of the Philippine Navy received the declared donations for shipment to the Philippines when the BRP Andres Bonifacio sails home from the Muara Commercial Port today.
Among the FAB officers who brought the boxed donation were Malou Ramos-Wong; Mina Balios, secretary; Clifford Baluarte, auditor; Manolito Abat, director of welfare; Roy Sarminento, director of membership; William Manalo, director of information, Joseph Sacris, director of culture; and Jacqueline Ramos, officer.
