THE Istiadat Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne officially came to an end yesterday, with a closing ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman.
In attendance at the Doa Selamat and closing of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, as the Chief of Ceremony.
In accordance with royal customs, the ceremony began with Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud informing Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara that the ceremony was about to proceed.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, in turn, announced to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah that the ceremony was ready to commence.
His Royal Highness then instructed Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad to inform and seek the consent of His Majesty for the ceremony to begin.
Following His Majesty’s consent, His Royal Highness then gave the order for the closing of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony to begin.
The ceremony began with a recitation of the Dikir Syarafil Anam, which was accompanied with a 21-gun salute.
This was followed by the recitation of the Doa Dikir by Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Emran bin Haji Kunchang, and a Doa Selamat by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad then informed Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz that the Doa Selamat and closing of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony had been duly carried out.
Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz then informed His Royal Highness that the ceremony had been duly carried out, after which His Royal Highness gave instructions to Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad for the ceremony to be closed. A display of centuries-old royal traditions and customs, the Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony signifies the beginning of a period for royal ceremonies, and concludes when the Istiadat Gendang Jaga-Jaga is officially closed.
