IN OUR resolve to implement the strategic plans for the Brunei Vision 2035, we should remain strong under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, support the Islamic value system and uphold the tradition of befriending all citizens and residents.

This was pointed out by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, while presenting a special lecture during a get-together with Brunei students in Egypt.

The three goals are pillars of the Brunei Vision 2035, and we should strive with a clear intent to ensure the highest progress for Brunei Darussalam and its people, keeping the nation peaceful, harmonious, united and prosperous and upholding its identity as a Malay Islamic Monarchy, the minister added.

The ceremony took place at a hotel in Cairo on Monday during a visit by the minister to Cairo after attending the 26th Conference of the Supreme Council organised by the Awqaf Ministry of Egypt in Aswan, the southern region of the country.

In his special lecture titled ‘Ilahi Save Brunei Darussalam’, the minister described the significant words of prayer in the lyrics of the national anthem ‘Allah Peliharakan Sultan’ as a reflection of our effort to maintain the nation’s existence as a sovereign, prosperous and peaceful place under the leadership of a monarch who is just.

On this note, the minister described the important episodes of the history of Brunei Darussalam since the establishment of the first Islamic reign in the 13th Century up to assuming the responsibility of the nation as a sovereign state in 1984.

According to the minister, these events have brought valuable lessons to the new, progressive and successful generation of Brunei for the modernisation of the nation. We should be grateful for Brunei and its socio-political system as it is a blessing of Allah the Almighty that must be maintained and developed in a responsible manner.

Attending the reception were Haji Abdul Kahar bin Haji Hussin, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Egypt and his wife; Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs; and officials of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Cairo, Egypt.

Haji Abdul Kahar in his speech at the ceremony said there are over 200 Bruneian students in Egypt of which 150 are studying at the University of Al-Azhar; 55 at Ma’had Qiraat Al-Azhar Shoubra, five at Cairo University, four at the University of Alexandria and one at the University of Ain Shams. Of the total, 122 are scholarship students of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
