THE main pillar of Vision 2035 is the country’s education sector, said Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, while delivering a speech during the Excellent Students Awards Ceremony yesterday at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
The minister also revealed that the Brunei Government has provided substantial funding for the education sector, and that his ministry would continue to work on improving schools, educational standards and current teaching methods.
“I welcome collaboration between the departments under the Ministry of Education. The effort in improving the quality of school leadership through the National Education Forum (NEF) is part of the Continuous Professional Development, which brings school leaders together to share their best approach,” he said.
“The Brunei Programme for Senior School Leaders and the Aspiring Senior Leaders Programme are also part of the professional platform which is aimed at enhancing leadership skills among school leaders in this country.”
The minister also called upon the parents and guardians to instil positive values in their children as future inheritors of the nation.
He also said that the Department of Schools is actively engaged in various efforts to boost the quality of education, such as initiating the Improvement Awards (IA), which recognises the efforts of educators and students whose scores showed vast improvement in Check Point
Tests (CPT) ranging from the Primary School Assessment (PSR) to the BC-GCE ‘O’ Level Examination.
“It is hoped that these efforts will continue to be supervised and upgraded, in order for them to succeed,” said the minister, concluding his speech.
