BRUNEIANS are set to witness two sessions of spectacular fireworks display that will light up the skies over the capital during the grand opening of the Sungai Kebun Bridge tonight in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.

Sponsored by the Tiong Hwa community, the first part of the fireworks will be conducted by Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics, specially invited from Australia.

According to Andrew Howard, Director of the company, “Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics has been in Brunei working on this grand fireworks display since July. The 14-minute fireworks display will be synchronised to a specially commissioned and composed piece of music by a well known Brunei music composer.”

For the final preparation, a team of six professional pyrotechnicians have been working for the last one week.

“We are honoured to be given the opportunity to work on this very special occasion and produce a magnificent display of pyrotechnic arts on this beautiful new bridge,” Howard said.

“We have really enjoyed working in Brunei for this display and we really hope that everyone who comes to see this display will enjoy it,” he added.

He disclosed that there will be a few special effects in the show that people should look out for which include some messages shooting from bridge, a beautiful waterfall cascading from the bridge and a spectacular golden grand finale.

The second part of the fireworks is presented by Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK) to congratulate His Majesty on the Golden Jubilee of the monarch’s Accession to the Throne.

The 20-minute musical fireworks will start with displaying number ‘50’, representing the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne, followed by the prelude and four chapters of the pyrotechnic marvel. In addition to the integration of Bruneian and Chinese traditional music, the show also boasts some especially custom-made fireworks products, which will certainly make the audience refreshing.

This session is carried out by Hunan Dream Fireworks and Liuyang Intently Fireworks Display, two of the top fireworks companies in the world, which has put up some fantastic performances in European and African countries.

Based in Liuyang city of China’s Hunan Province which is well known as the “fireworks hometown”, Hunan Dream Fireworks and Liuyang Intently Fireworks Display have worked closely to adjust the display planning to meet the government requirements and finally come up a new version of musical fireworks that will not only be more colourful, but also minimise the closure bridges and roads.

During the 14th China-Asean Expo held in Nanning in mid-September, His Majesty had expressed satisfaction over the fireworks show after the monarch was briefed on the project by Wang Xiaolin, General Manager of BOCHK Brunei Branch.
