Discovery of bodies: Women last seen in Kiulap

THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is focussing its probe over the discovery of two bodies from different locations on the main suspect who has provided information regarding the corpses.

A local man named Mohamad Khairulnizam bin Ali Noh, 26, is the prime suspect in the case.

Details of the shocking case were revealed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)Pengiran Haji Mohd Jefri bin Pengiran Abdul Hamid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of the RBPF, in a press conference yesterday.

Explaining the timeline of the case, ACP Pengiran Haji Mohd Jefri said, “The RBPF started investigation after receiving a missing report about two women aged 70 and 23 on October 7, 2017 at the Central Police Station. Both women were last seen on October 5 in the Kiulap area using a grey coloured vehicle.

On October 9, RBPF personnel from the Central Police Station with the assistance of the victims’ family members managed to find and capture the prime suspect, who was using the car of one of the victims. He was apprehended near the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah roundabout.

During investigation, it was found that Mohamad Khairulnizam had been detained twice by the Narcotics Control Bureau for suspected drug abuse and in a case of assault with a weapon.

During interrogation, the RBPF managed to attain information on the whereabouts of the bodies. The first body was found at Bukit Panggal area on the highway, while the other body was discovered at Kampong Dadap in Kilanas.

The police revealed that the 23-year-old victim is the adopted child of the 70-year-old victim.

In response to whether foul play was suspected, ACP Pengiran Haji Mohd Jefri said, “We are still conducting investigation and will be requesting further remand of the suspect to get more details about the case. We will update the public with the latest information.

“The cause of the deaths is still under investigation which is currently focussed on the suspect,” he said, adding that further investigation is needed to ascertain if there are any other accomplices.

Also attending the press conference were Senior Superintendent of Police Haji Mohd Fadzillah bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department; Assistant Superintendent of Police Pengiran Haji Abu Naba’a bin Pengiran Haji Yusuf, Head of Special Investigation; and Chief Inspector Aprizam bin Haji Mohammad, Head of House Break-in and Car Theft Unit.
