THE RFS Admiral Panteleev, a destroyer of the Russian Pacific Fleet, recently hosted a reception dinner on the occasion of its visit to Muara Port under the Task Force of the Russian Pacific Fleet to Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
The guest of honour, Deputy Minister of Defence First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit was received by the Ambassador of Russia to Brunei Darussalam Vladlen Semivolos and the Deputy Commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet Task Force Rear Admiral Eduard Mikhailov.
Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Joint Force Commander Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma’awiah, senior officers from the Ministry of Defence as well as members of foreign Diplomatic Corps were also present.
Rear Admiral Eduard Mikhailov underscored the great importance of the current friendly call of the Task Force of the Russian Pacific Fleet made in conjunction with the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
He used the opportunity on behalf of the task force to express wishes of good health, happiness and well-being to His Majesty as well as prosperity to the people of Brunei on this auspicious occasion. The rear admiral stressed the readiness of the Russian side to continue friendly cooperation between the navies of Russia and Brunei.
The Deputy Minister of Defence and Rear Admiral Eduard Mikhailov exchanged plaques and memorable gifts as well as took part in a cake-cutting ceremony alongside the Russian ambassador.
One of the highlights of the evening was the ceremony to present to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Vladlen Semivolos the Medal ‘For Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms’, awarded by Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
Guests enjoyed Russian meals specially prepared by the cook of the ship, and were treated to performances by artistes of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Pacific Fleet. They also watched video presentations about Russia and its Navy.
The Task Force of the Russian Pacific Fleet – comprising the large anti-submarine ships ‘Admiral Vinogradov’ and ‘Admiral Panteleev’, as well as tanker ‘Boris Butoma’ – is currently in Brunei Darussalam on a friendly visit until October 17.
The fleet’s commanding officers and crew of over 700 people are holding professional exchanges with the Royal Brunei Navy to establish interoperability, cooperation and mutual understanding between the armed forces of Russia and Brunei.
The Admiral Panteleev will be open to the public today from 10am to 3pm.
